The Hammock: A Great Relaxing and Stress Reducing Machine

Where Did Hammocks Come From And Why Are They So Popular?

The hammock was “first” used by one of Socrates’ students between 450-404 B.C. There is also evidence that the Mayan tribes of South America, used hammocks made of bark from the “hamack” tree 3,000 years ago. It is reported that in the 1700’s Christopher Columbus brought the hammock back to Europe from the islands he explored. In these early days hammocks were made with tree bark sisal leaves. Today, hammocks are made with a variety of materials including cotton, Nylon, polyester and Nylon Silk just to mention a few.

The hammock chair, hammock swing and camping hammock are among the more popular hammocks today.

The key to understanding the hammock’s popularity lies in the fact that lying in one promotes relaxation, reduces stress and “suspends” you from gravity for the time being. The latter feature also relaxes your muscles. This is true for the hammock chair, hammock swing and camping hammock.

Imagine Yourself In This Scenario…

You come home after a long and stressful day at work and you look forward to relaxing and having a chance to unwind. You head for the overstuffed easy chair in your den or living room to unwind and that may do it for you. However, those folks that are really in the know, understand that nothing matches the floating “in air” feeling that one gets lying in a hammock swing, a camping hammock. or sitting in a hammock chair.

There is a respite from gravity resulting in muscle relaxation as well as mental relaxation that takes place quickly once you are in the hammock. The hammock takes the edge off the day’s adverse events and provides a calming effect on your psyche.

Hammocks are great and after you experience the soothing effect of the hammock chair, hammock swing or camping hammock that they have on you, the question you will be asking yourself is “Why didn’t I get this hammock thing sooner?”

Don’t be surprised if other members of your family fight for time on the hammock chair, camping hammock or hammock swing. Frankly, when your family and friends try it, they won’t want to get out of the hammock. This can be a problem!!!

Next thing you know, you will be getting a second hammock chair or hammock swing for you home or a camping hammock for trips.

Just remember I warned you!
